Privacy Policy
[LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("we") runs sheer tools. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL] with any question about it.
The short version
Most of what you do here never reaches us. The generators, counters and previewers run entirely in your browser: what you type, the names you produce and the lists you shortlist stay on your device and are gone when you close the tab. You do not need an account to use any of them.
Three things do leave your browser, and each is covered below: domain availability checks, analytics, and account details if you choose to create an account.
What we collect
Nothing, for most tool use
Opening a tool and using it sends us no personal data. We do not store the words you enter, the names you generate, or anything you shortlist.
Domain availability checks
The company name generator can check whether a .com is registered. To answer that, the name is sent to our server, which asks the registry operator for the .com zone. We cache the answer for a few hours so repeat checks do not hit the registry again, and we rate limit by IP address to keep the service usable.
The cache holds the domain and whether it was registered. It does not hold anything about who asked.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand which tools people use and where pages break. It records page views, clicks and rough technical details like browser and screen size. Requests are proxied through our own domain, so an ad blocker will not silently break the site.
We do not use analytics to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell data to anyone.
If you would rather not be measured, enable Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser, or block /ingest at the network level.
Account details
If you create an account we store your email address, your name if you give one, a hashed password, and the sessions you have open. Passwords are hashed, never stored in a form we can read.
We send email through Resend: the verification link, the magic sign-in link, and nothing else. There is no marketing list.
Cookies
We use two kinds:
- A session cookie once you sign in, so you stay signed in. Removing it signs you out.
- Analytics cookies set by PostHog, to tell one visit from another.
We do not use advertising cookies, and there are no third party trackers beyond the analytics described above.
Who else touches your data
| Who | What for |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosting and serving the site |
| PostHog | Product analytics |
| Resend | Sending verification and sign-in emails |
The .com registry operator | Answering domain availability lookups |
| [DATABASE HOST] | Storing accounts and sessions |
Each of these sees only what it needs to do its job. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising.
How long we keep it
- Domain lookups: cached for a few hours, then discarded
- Analytics: retained by PostHog under their default retention
- Accounts: until you ask us to delete yours
- Sessions: until they expire or you sign out
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or take it elsewhere. Email [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will answer within 30 days.
Because tool use is anonymous, the only personal data we are likely to hold is your account, if you made one. Deleting your account removes it.
Children
This is a business tool and not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the site before they take effect.
