If you serve customers in a place, local search is the best return on effort in this entire course. The competition is weaker, the intent is stronger, and much of the work is a one-off setup.
Google Business Profile is the main event
For local searches, the map results sit above everything else. Claim the profile and complete it properly:
- Exact business name, address, and phone — matching your website precisely.
- The right primary category, which matters more than most people realise.
- Real photographs, updated occasionally.
- Accurate hours, including holidays.
- Services and a description written for humans.
Reviews are the ranking factor you can influence
Volume, recency, and rating all matter, and reviews also decide who calls you. Ask every satisfied customer, at the moment they are happiest, with a direct link. Respond to all of them — especially the negative ones, briefly and without defensiveness.
Consistency across the web
Your name, address, and phone should be identical everywhere they appear: your site, the profile, directories, your invoices. Inconsistencies confuse the systems that try to match them.
Pages for places, done honestly
If you serve several towns, a page per location can work — but only if each page is genuinely about that place, with real specifics. Twenty near-identical pages with the town name swapped is a pattern search engines are extremely good at recognising.
