Positioning that lives in a document changes nothing. It has to reach the surfaces where someone decides whether to reply to you, and those surfaces are mostly truncated, skimmed, and read on a phone.
The surfaces that matter
- Your LinkedIn headline and the first line of your about section.
- The first sentence of every proposal and cold email you send.
- Your site’s hero, above the fold, before any image loads.
- How you answer "what do you do" out loud.
Each of those has a cut-off, and buyers judge you on what survives it. Write for the truncated version first, then let the full version be a bonus for the few who keep reading.
Give it a quarter
New positioning feels wrong for a few weeks, then obvious. Do not judge it on your own discomfort. Judge it on whether inbound leads start describing their problem in the same words you used.
Try it
Paste your new positioning into the LinkedIn previewer and check what survives above the fold on mobile. If your specialty is below the cut, rewrite until it is not.
